Why should I prescreen?
You want to reduce the risk of hiring individuals with a history of theft, violence, drugs, sexual harassment, and other problems. Knowledge is power. Whether you react to the information or not, you are able to make informed decisions that will reduce your liability and ensure a safe work environment.
What information can I get?
- Criminal Convictions: Felonies, Misdemeanors and Violations.
- Judgments in Civil and Eviction Cases
- Social Security Number Verification
- Driving History
What are my obligations under the law?
As of October 1, 1997, the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) requires that all employers who request background information for pre-employment or volunteer purposes have a written consent before they begin the process. If they make any adverse decisions because of results from the background report, they must provide a letter to the applicant explaining the decision, a copy of the FCRA and a copy of the report which the decision was based.
For more detailed information regarding your obligations, please consult a lawyer for legal advise.
What is a criminal history check or background screening?
Unless you request otherwise, a criminal history search is a ten (10) year search of court records in the state of Oregon, that provides Misdemeanor, Felony and Violation convictions. These are reported to you in a written report that includes (in most cases) the date of the conviction, case number and conviction category.
Is it always felony or misdemeanor searches?
We always attempt to obtain at least Felony and Misdemeanors and related Violation convictions. Please keep in mind that each state varies with what information can be obtained and reported. All searches done in Oregon are state-wide.
How do I get my reports back?
